Hi, my name is Kim and I am a qualified counsellor, directional coach and weight loss counsellor. Counselling and coaching are not just about listening, they’re about working together to find the solution that fits in with your lifestyle. Over the years I have worked in various sectors of the community from youth to aged care, so you could say I’m an all-rounder when it comes to my learning experiences.
My specialities are in weight loss and adoption counselling having personal experiences with both.
A few years ago I went on my own weight loss journey and lost 30.5kgs. This weight loss signified so much more in my life than just losing the physical weight. I felt more in control of myself because I had over-come such a major struggle in my life and it changed me both mentally and physically. I felt that if I could control my weight I could control anything in my life and it gave me more confidence and self-esteem to strive for more challenges. Based on my weight loss journey I created a 7 week weight loss program focusing on changing the way you think in order to change the way you eat and exercise. The way it works is each week for 7 weeks you are given a workbook which contains tasks, challenges and mindfulness weight loss information. Together we will both go on this journey for you and work through the struggles and challenges that are faced with you losing weight. You will not be on your own, I will be there beside you each week to help you through each workbook and to monitor your progress as you go. At the end of the 7 weeks we will go through what you have learnt and work on a maintenance program to keep you on track. It’s a great program and the skills and tools used in this program are not only great for weight loss, but are also helpful to use in everyday life situations.
My other speciality, as I mentioned earlier, is adoption counselling. Being adopted myself, I understand that although we all have different experiences of our adoption, I can also emphasise with some of the emotional struggles we are faced with from being adopted, such as feelings of rejection and acceptance. It’s a struggle that a lot of us face, however not many of us know where to turn to or who to talk to that can understand what you are going through and help you overcome some of the feelings you are faced with.
Depending on the individual needs and wants of my client, the types of counselling and coaching styles I like to use are person centered, cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT), and mindfulness counselling. I use the GROW model and like to use different tools and techniques, such as working solutions out on a white board, or completing personality tests using Myer-Briggs theory to help client’s with future goals. I am a proactive counsellor that likes to work together with you to “nut†out the issues you have and then work on solving those issues so you can move forward with your life in a more positive frame of mind.
So call me and together we will work through this. For more information, you can click on the e-mail button on the right side or you can reach me at 0403 668 656.
