Dr Andrea Selby was a late starter to medical studies after having first completed her Nursing certificate in Brisbane in 1980 then moving to England to study midwifery in 1982. Upon returning to Australia a few years later, Andrea decided to study medicine at the University of Newcastle. After graduating in 1995 she has worked in various rural and regional centres in NSW, and continuing her studies, graduated with a Diploma of Obstetrics and Gynaecology in Lismore. The warmth of the sunshine state eventually drew her back to Brisbane where she continued her GP training with stints in Cleveland and Cooroy. After 7 years working as a GP in Brisbane the travel bug took hold again and off she went to work at a small emergency clinic in Ireland for 18 months. Cork was a great base to see much of Europe! Since returning to Australia in 2010 Andrea has worked as a GP throughout rural Queensland. Family reasons have enticed her back to the Sunshine Coast. Andrea enjoys all aspects of general practice and loves the amazing variety of the work. After hours life revolves around travelling, bushwalking, running, cooking and reading.
